EnerNOC Wins AESP Award for Outstanding Achievement in Pricing and Demand Response

BOSTON, MA – EnerNOC, Inc., a leading provider of technology-enabled demand response solutions, today announced that it has received the 2007 award for Outstanding Achievement in Pricing and Demand Response from the Association of Energy Services Professionals (AESP).

The award honors individuals, teams or organizations that represent the “best in class” in designing and implementing an energy services program, as well as an outstanding commitment to advancing the energy services field.  EnerNOC was recognized as the sole award recipient in the Pricing and Demand Response category for its One Click Curtailment™ technology which enables remote, automated demand response.

Developed by Co-Founders David Brewster and Tim Healy, EnerNOC’s Network Operations Center (NOC) translates an old demand response model into a new concept.  Utilities have offered demand response to their principal electricity consumers for decades, but were constrained by the inefficiencies of having to place calls manually to a handful of large end users.  With the click of a mouse, EnerNOC’s One Click Curtailment technology sheds end-user load from the grid and monitors customers’ energy assets, opening up demand response to a vast array of commercial, industrial and institutional organizations.

“We are honored to receive recognition from the AESP for our automated approach to demand response,” says Brewster.  “This award, which follows EnerNOC’s recent honors from Platts and the World Economic Forum, further demonstrates that the industry has increased its focus on technological advancements in demand response and the role they play in helping to solve real economic and environmental challenges.”

EnerNOC, founded in 2001, now has more than 500 MW of dedicated demand response capacity under management.  Through record peak demand in the summer of 2006, EnerNOC managed 39 demand response events throughout California, New York and New England, at times concurrently.  In each instance, EnerNOC helped prevent blackouts by reducing demand from the electricity grid.

“Over the years, we’ve seen the commercial and industrial sector become more engaged in energy-efficient endeavors as companies learn how easy and rewarding it is to integrate demand response into their business models,” says Healy.  “Now that our customers understand the benefits of monitoring consumption and shedding nonessential electricity in brief times of peak demand, they can broaden their participation in energy markets and contribute to the overall goal of ensuring a greener future.”
