BOSTON, MA – Platts announced today that EnerNOC, Inc.,
the leading demand response service provider, has been selected as a
finalist for its Energy Pioneer Award.
Energy Pioneer, one of 17 categories recognized in Platts's annual
Global Energy Awards, honors vision, courage, innovation, persistence,
and success, and is highlighted by nominees who have identified ground-breaking
opportunities to change the energy playing field. Past winners accepted risks
and achieved the seemingly impossible while positively impacting the
energy industry.
"EnerNOC is proud to be a finalist again," Co-Founder and
President David Brewster commented, as EnerNOC was a 2005 finalist in
the Rising Star category for emerging energy startups. "We repeatedly
helped to stabilize the grid this summer and truly consider our company to
be an Energy Pioneer."
Although utilities have offered demand response to their largest
electricity consumers for decades, Brewster and Co-Founder and CEO Tim
Healy translated an old idea into a new concept, focusing instead on smaller
C&I businesses to create a "Negawatt Network™" of distributed
assets. Additionally, EnerNOC modernized traditional demand response with
proprietary technology that networks customers' facilities across any region
in real-time and dispatches them when and where necessary to avoid blackouts
and reduce high wholesale electricity costs.
EnerNOC's industry-leading demand response services have fueled
the company's rapid expansion since its inception in 2001. This year
alone, following a series of nationwide heat waves, EnerNOC managed 39
demand response events throughout New England, New York, and California
to successfully preempt blackouts or lower wholesale prices.
Healy is awed by his company's achievements in the last five years.
"We started as two driven, passionate guys with nothing but a
vision and lots of opportunity. Now, thanks to the dedicated, talented
group of individuals at the firm, EnerNOC is a proven and trusted leader
in the industry, not only in deliverable capacity but in influencing
demand response policy throughout the country. It's rewarding to see
our progress."
The Platts Global Energy Awards showcase extraordinary accomplishments
from the energy business worldwide, with finalists chosen for their true
innovative spirit and enduring commitment to employees, customers,
shareholders, and the industry as a whole. The Awards, now in its eighth
year, are described as the "World Series" or "Academy Awards"
of the energy industry. Winners will be announced at a black-tie gala
event on November 30 in New York City.
