Raley's Makes Contribution to Grid Reliability

In response to Governor Schwarzenegger's request for increased energy conservation in California, Raley's has committed more than 70 stores in the PG&E utility district to reduce energy consumption when electrical grid operators request assistance.

The growing state economy, in combination with a fragile energy supply infrastructure, has increased the imperative for businesses to participate in demand response programs. Raley's participation in the California Power Authority's Demand Reserves Partnership program is the first for a grocer in the state and effectively reduces the load on the electrical grid by an equivalent of 5,000 households when called upon.

Raley's Family of Fine Stores is committed to assisting the communities in which it serves and this is another way to ensure customer and food safety. "We have the technology to help keep the grid reliable by reducing our load during peak hours. By participating in this program we help ensure that our customers enjoy our products and services in our stores and at home without fear of rolling blackouts that hurt California in the past," said Ed Estberg, Senior Director of Facilities at Raley's.

EnerNOC, Inc., the provider of the technology and solution that enables Raley's to participate provides these services throughout the US and manages more than 100 megawatts of demand response assets. "Raley's understands that customers respond very favorably to businesses that show a special commitment to community and customer well-being and this program is another fine example of this," said Gregg Dixon, Vice President of Marketing and Sales for EnerNOC.
