Position Description:

EnerNOC has an immediate need for a Network Administrator Operations Intern. The mission of the Network Operation Center is to provide capacity to the grid by reducing customers’ electricity consumption on an emergency basis. We execute this mission by developing appropriate protocols, validating them with rigorous testing, and then executing them flawlessly. This position is perfect for a highly-motivated student who is passionate about networking, energy conservation, the electric grid, and demand response.

The intern will work within the Operations department to ensure that the team, the network, and our customers are prepared for the next emergency. Understanding that different interns come with a variety of different skill sets, we will help find responsibilities that maximize the interns’ productivity and value to EnerNOC. However, as a baseline, the intern will:

  • Provide excellent technical support and customer service to internal and external customers
  • Work cases from our CRM ticketing system
  • Write documentation on troubleshooting guides and configurations
  • Configure networking equipment when necessary
  • Perform acceptance tests to approve any new site registrations
  • Assist in execution of demand response events

Further, the intern will help us find ways to increase operational efficiency by inventing ways to streamline operations, communicating ideas to the operations and engineering teams, and conducting user acceptance tests. The intern will become an expert in EnerNOC’s core operational processes, and will develop a deep understanding of the issues surrounding load curtailment, emergency backup generation, and demand response programs across the nation.

Required Qualifications/Skills/Education:

  • Student or recent graduate of 4-year undergraduate program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Networking Information Systems, or related field
  • Passion for the energy industry
  • Excellent computer networking and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to apply creativity and objectivity to design and implement solutions to real business problems
  • Strong self-motivation with the ability to work in a fast paced, forward moving environment
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work with operations and engineering personnel in a team environment
  • Willingness and desire to learn new technologies

Desired Qualifications/Skills/Education:

  • Experience in networking
  • Certification in CCNA
  • Experience in energy management, power generation, and related technologies
