What is Electricity Deregulation?

In certain areas of the United States, electricity markets are deregulated and thus open to competition. Ratepayers in these regions have the opportunity to choose which electricity supplier will provide power to their businesses. EnerNOC can help customers in those markets select the best-suited provider, through its Energy Procurement Services.

Will my service still be reliable when I receive power from a competitive supplier?

Yes. Your service will be as reliable as it is now. Your existing utility will still perform all the functions; this includes delivery, transmission, distribution, and meter reading. Your existing utility will remain responsible for maintenance, including emergency repairs during storms or other outages.

Who will I call if my lights go out?

You will still call your existing utility because they are still responsible for the maintenance of the wires that transmit your electricity.

Will the power quality be lowered?

No. The power you will receive will be exactly the same as it is now. State deregulation plans mandate that power quality and reliability not be jeopardized. If your power is interrupted due to a system failure, your repairs will be made in the same order and timelines they are now.

When I purchase my electricity from a competitive supplier, will I lose any existing customer protections?

No. All existing customer protections remain in effect.

What if the competitive supplier I select fails to deliver my electricity or goes out of business?

If this should happen, there is nothing to worry about. You will automatically revert to power supplied by your existing utility without interruption.
